Roger W. Sanders obtained a B.A. in biology from College of the Ozarks (Missouri), a M.S. in botany from the University of Michigan, and a Ph.D. in systematic botany from the University of Texas. He has conducted research on topics ranging from the origin of bizarre wildflower trees on the Robinson Crusoe Islands, to biosystematics of shrub verbenas, to the phylogeny of certain spiny palms. He spent 13 years as a consultant near Fort Worth, Texas, where he assisted non-profit and governmental agencies in obtaining baseline data for vegetational inventories, analyses, and maps.
